Elder Andersen lettered in
cross-country in high school.
His leadership skills emerged
early in student government. In high school he was voted the president of the Idaho Association of Student Councils by his peers.
He attended Boys Nation and also, as a junior, travelled to Virginia where he represented Idaho among 38 countries for a convention about challenges facing democracy.
Elder Andersen’s main
interest seems to be his family. Even though he is often quite busy, his
children recollect that he was never too busy to spend quality time with
them. His oldest daughter, Camey, says that she remembers her dad taking
each of the four children individually once a month to breakfast. The
child would get to pick where they ate and the topics they would discuss.
Derek, the youngest of Elder
Andersen’s children, remembers many basketball games played with the
family. He says that when his dad would come home from work, they would
gang up on the older brother trying to beat him.
